Critically acclaimed short story writer, Steven Lloyd, spills all on his success, childhood, and writing know-how. Lloyd opens his literary black book to give you the contacts you need for a successful start in the publishing world.
September 2020 will see the release of Bleed With Me. Half memoir half writing advice, Lloyd pulled the book in 2018 because of family outrage. Some things, as some family members suggested, should stay buried. Now in 2020 Lloyd gives these old ghosts the keys and let's them drive.
Includes a foreword by Mark Sieber and an introduction by Ronald Kelly. Also includes Lloyd's critically acclaimed short story The Wooden Box.
A big thank you to John at Madness Heart Press for taking a chance. Cover coming soon.

BLEED WITH ME

Some will tell you that I've walked with Death most of my life. Others who know me intimately say our union began before conception.
On January 8, 1972, I made my debut. The rumor got around that my father was going to kidnap me from the hospital. The family came together to guard all entrances into the hospital.
I knew little about my biological father, only that he was an abusive monster. A heavy drinker and drug user. His favorite thing to do was to come home, coil his fingers in my mother's ponytail and beat her unmercifully in the face. It became a tradition of sorts.
This particular joyride came to a bitter end when she cut off her ponytail and threw it at him, saying, "Beat that!"
She may well have been the first female badass of the twentieth century--that’s if Rosa Parks and Maud Stevens Wagner don’t mind sharing the title. Two days later, he tried to kill us by burning down our home. Luckily, we were still at the hospital.
At some point after my delivery, as if she knew trouble was brewing, my mother suggested her sister and her husband raise me, should something happen to her. She settled on a name I carry to this day.
Eight days later, my mother was dead. She held me once. Most would expect by the hands of my father. But, no. A negligent custodian sealed my mother's fate when he cleaned her room and never closed the window. Pneumonia stole her life, and not the hands of a madman.
What follows is my life. My story. My words. My advice to you.
Bleed with me...
Is it a how-to book? A memoir? A short story collection? Steven Lloyd's BLEED WITH ME is a little bit of each of those, I guess . . . most importantly, it's an engaging read told ...with honesty and ambition and a whole lot of talent. I couldn't put it down." - James Newman (author of ODD MAN OUT and UGLY AS SIN)
“Horror writer Steven Lloyd's BLEED WITH ME gives first time authors bloody good advice they can take to heart.” - The Written Universe
“Best Scenario: My front porch, fresh coffee and Steven Lloyd talking writing. Alternative Choice: Same porch and coffee with my Kindle reading Lloyd's BLEED WITH ME. For those learning the rules of publishing, Steven shares from experience as a writer and a publisher. Interesting, entertaining and informative, you'll read it and know this guy understands and all who read it will be glad he was willing to share his knowledge with us.” – John Paul Allen (author of GIFTED TRUST)
“Not the usual How-to book for writers but exceptionally interesting. Not only does the author go through the various stages of bringing a book to publish, but he also gives contacts and recommendations too. At the end, Steven Lloyd treats us to his critically acclaimed short story, The Wooden Box, and believe me, it's worth the wait. Snippets of his life are included in the beginning and somewhere among the shocking, crazy, yet highly fascinating events, there is definitely another book to be written. Bleed with Me is an unexpected find that will leave you wanting more.”—T.P. Keane
